Index methodology

Every line is scaled to 100 as of September 6, 2026, a month before the newest reading; set Index from to measure from any other day. Each step counts only communities read on two consecutive days, so a page entering coverage cannot move a line. The pooled line adds Reddit’s top 250 as a 26th page, counting a community on both lists once. Point at a line to name its topic, or pick one under Show to draw it alone. Dashed stretches are gaps of up to 3 days, filled between the readings either side. The index describes the communities measured, not Reddit as a whole.

About the data

What these pages measure

Reddit's category pages

Reddit’s Explore section publishes a page per topic. Oscylo keeps every community each page lists, with the visitor figure Reddit printed. The page sizes are Reddit’s own and range from ten communities to a hundred and sixty-eight.

Why an index and not a total

Coverage began at different dates for different topics, so summed totals would show sixteen pages switching on as growth. Each step of the index is the ratio across communities present on both days, which leaves a page joining coverage with no effect on the level.

How far back it goes

The earliest category data dates from October 4, 2025, but all 25 are only present together from August 20, 2026, which is where every published index begins. The 100 sits a month before the newest reading and moves forward with each day's data; it is on September 6, 2026 now. 48 days are drawn.

Communities on two pages

66 of the 1,594 communities appear under more than one topic. Each category's own total counts them, because they are on that page; the pooled index counts them once.

Categories and segments are not the same thing

Every category on this page is Reddit's. Reddit decides which communities each topic page carries, and Oscylo reports those pages as published. A segment is Oscylo's own grouping instead: built around a subject, and drawn across however many of Reddit's topics its communities happen to be filed under. The two answer different questions and neither is a version of the other.

A community keeps its rank and its figure but loses its name unless Reddit's own adult flag says it is not adult. Most withheld names are communities Reddit has flagged 18+; the rest are ones no classification has been recorded for yet.
